Your child has been given a selection of reading books and a reading log to record when they have read. Although they have been given a designated day to change their books, we would really appreciate it if they could have their reading books and logs in school everyday. Please read with your child as much as possible as it has such a huge impact on their confidence and ideas when writing, When you have read with your child, please make a note in their log. This will help us to know when to change their books, but it is also wonderful to see your comments which we can share with your child.
Your child will soon receive weekly spellings.
Numbots online Maths
Your child will soon receive details of this website and a login. It is a great way of practising their number facts.
Please go to the Curriculum Overview tab for documents detailing the topics, themes and books we will be covering this year
Throughout the year, your child will participate in daily Read Write Inc lessons, where they will work in a small group to practise their sounds, spelling, writing and reading skills. Due to Covid, the children did not take part in the Year 1 Phonics Screen so it will be carried out later this term instead. If your child does not meet the required mark then, they will be given further support and practise and will retake the test (using different words) in June. Children will be well prepared for this and will see the test as more of a game; so children do not feel any pressure.
