It has been so wonderful meeting you all and we look forward to an exciting year ahead! We would like to say a huge thank you for your support during these uncertain and strange times. We have been so impressed with how well the children have adapted to being back at school and with their new routines; thank you for making the start and end of the days run so smoothly.
If at any point during the year you have any queries, please email us on the email addresses below:

On Thursday afternoons, the classes will have a 6 week rotation of either forest school or P.E. (see timetable for dates). Please ensure appropriate clothing is worn for both.
P.E will also take place on Monday mornings for those not doing Forest School (please come to school wearing your kit and have your uniform to change into afterwards).
All clothing must be names to ensure a safe return.
Your child has been given a selection of reading books and a reading log to record when they have read. Although they have been given a designated day to change their books, we would really appreciate it if they could have their reading books and logs in school everyday. Please read with your child as much as possible as it has such a huge impact on their confidence and ideas when writing, When you have read with your child, please make a note in their log. This will help us to know when to change their books, but it is also wonderful to see your comments which we can share with your child.
Your child will soon receive weekly spellings. At present there are activities and games on Spelling Shed for you to complete if you wish (the login details for this are in your child's reading log but please email if you need them again).
Your child has also been given log in details for TT Rockstars which is a fantastic way of practising the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. There are lots of games to play and you can challenge your friends to battles.
We will update the Remote Learning tab weekly with activities which follow what we are doing in school. These tasks are designed for the children who are not able to attend school, however the activities on Spelling Shed and My Maths can be completed by anyone, regardless of whether you are in school or not. Please remember though that these tasks are optional and we completely understand that you may not be able to do them during these difficult times.
Please go to the Curriculum Overview tab for documents detailing the topics, themes and books we will be covering this year
Throughout the year, your child will participate in daily Read Write Inc lessons, where they will work in a small group to practise their sounds, writing and reading skills. Due to Lockdown, the children did not take part in the Year 1 Phonics Screen so it will be carried out in Autumn 2 instead (more details to follow). If your child does not meet the required mark in Autumn 2, they will be given further support and practise and will retake the test (using different words) in June. Just like SATs, the children will be well prepared for this and will see the test as more of a game; we want to keep it as low key as possible so your child does not feel any pressure.
Although this is a SATs year, we make it as low key as possible for the children - please help us by playing along! Over the past few years the children have been unaware that they have taken part in SATs and due to their age, we aim to continue this. We prepare the children for what the tests will contain and ensure the children can reach their full potential, but make sure this does not overpower the other learning that takes place in Year 2. SATs should take place in May (we will give you more information leading up to it) and the children will take them in small groups whilst the other children complete activities in the hall.
