Year 2

Welcome Back to Year 2!

We are really looking forward to everyone returning to school on Monday. It will be lovely to see you all again and we have lots of exciting activities planned for the weeks ahead, including lots of opportunities to play together and to enjoy some outdoor learning!  We will be following all the same Covid precautions and routines as we did during the Autumn Term. We would like to say a huge thank you for your support during these uncertain and strange times. We have been so impressed with how well the children have adapted since the start of the Spring Term, whether they have been continuing to attend school 'with a difference', overcoming the challenges of home learning or a mixture of the two!

If at any point you have any queries, please contact us on the email addresses below:

Home Learning opportunities

Reading

Your child has been given a selection of reading books and a reading log to record when they have read. Although they have been given a designated day to change their books, we would really appreciate it if they could have their reading books and logs in school everyday. Please read with your child as much as possible as it has such a huge impact on their confidence and ideas when writing, When you have read with your child, please make a note in their log. This will help us to know when to change their books, but it is also wonderful to see your comments which we can share with your child.

Spellings

Your child will soon receive weekly spellings. At present there are activities and games on Spelling Shed for you to complete if you wish (the login details for this are in your child's reading log but please email if you need them again).

TT Rockstars

Your child has also been given log in details for TT Rockstars which is a fantastic way of practising the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. There are lots of games to play and you can challenge your friends to battles.

Additional activities

We will update the Remote Learning tab weekly with activities which follow what we are doing in school. These tasks are designed for the children who are not able to attend school, however the activities on Spelling Shed and My Maths can be completed by anyone, regardless of whether you are in school or not.  Please remember though that these tasks are optional and we completely understand that you may not be able to do them during these difficult times.

Topics

Please go to the Curriculum Overview tab for documents detailing the topics, themes and books we will be covering this year

Phonics Screen

Throughout the year, your child will participate in daily Read Write Inc lessons, where they will work in a small group to practise their sounds, writing and reading skills. Due to the first Lockdown, the children did not take part in the Year 1 Phonics Screen so it was carried out in Autumn 2 instead. If your child did not meet the required mark in Autumn 2, they will be given further support and practise and will retake the test (using different words) in June. Just like SATs, the children will be well prepared for this and will see the test as more of a game; we want to keep it as low key as possible so your child does not feel any pressure.

SATs (Secret Agent Training!)

Due to the recent Lockdown, Year 2 SATS will not take place this year; however there will be ongoing teacher assessment throughout the rest of Year 2.
